Creature Features

About the Place
When I'm at the pub and I ask a couple of female friends if they'd like a little creature they usually reply with a giggle and a yes. They look at each other with their eyes lit up and say "its little and really nice" as if they have let the cat out of the bag.

Nestled at the Southern end of the Freemantle Pier in Western Australia you can find the Little Creatures Brewery/Restaurant. It's not a new concept to have a restaurant in the same place where you brew beer but this place does it better than anyone else. A half hour drive from Perth is worth every drop. You can go for a walk past the best fish and chips but you can't avoid a stop at the brewery. "Just one beer mate" is the usual excuse and five beers later you are still there.

About the Food
The menu is a combination of Mediterranean and Italian. The competitors next door are of Greek and Italian heritage so a combination of both with a modern twist was a wise decision. The beer goes well with everything.

The wood fired pizzas come with ingredients like spicy Italian sausage, shiitake mushrooms, Bocconcini, Blue Cheese, Harissa Spiced Lamb and Spiced pumpkin to name a few. Other simple dishes include marinated octopus, marinated Kangaroo, Persian Feta, Squid Chilli Coriander and Chilli tomato Mussels. Notice a lot of spicy dishes? They all go well with the BEER! Hungry yet?

About the Beer
To date there are five beers to choose from. Pale Ale - Pilsner- Bright Ale, Amber Ale and Rogers Beer. Bright, Amber & Pale Ale are crisp with citrus flavours of grapefruit, passionfruit and a bit of honey, all backed up with a good balance of bitterness. The Pilsner is a lager style being crisp, clean and elegant. This is a refreshing pilsner based on the classically structured European examples that use the finest Saaz hops and a patient fermentation regime. Rogers Beer is a careful balance of caramel flavours from the malt and that unique, slightly floral character from the whole hop flowers gives it an easy going attitude at 3.8% alc/vol. When you are lost with the menu ask a creature (waiter). Thirsty yet?

Last but not least - the ambience feels like a warehouse, smells like a brewery and looks like one too. The little creature brewery is small like its name but lets keep it that way. As the ladies back at the pub were saying, its not how big it is, its how you make it. Cheers!
